Scoreboards

A scoreboard is a staple in almost all sporting events. It’s where the score, time, statistics, etc. is publicly displayed. Most modern scoreboards use electromechanical or electronic means of displaying the score.

So what should be considered when seeking the best product to meet your scoring needs?

Appearance — Scoreboard cabinets can be fully customized from school colors to graphics panels with mascots, and sponsorship panels. Lighting options, such as internally lit cabinets and Electronic Message Centers (EMC) can enhance the overall appearance.

Functionality — It’s important to determine what features are required to make the scoreboard as functional as possible. Factors such as being used for multiple sports, portability, and size of venue are essential in determining what type of scoreboard will work best.

Programmability — Being able to customize captions/digits on a board can be beneficial for viewers, especially for boards serving double or triple duty, such as a scoreboard in a gymnasium, which may be used for basketball, volleyball, and wrestling. Having the capability to change the captions over the digits in scenarios like this helps the viewer see and understand what the data means rather than trying to guess.

Connectivity — During a game, it is critical to have a glitch-free communication between the controller and scoreboard, which has lead to one of the greatest advancements in traditional scoreboard technology.
